Lighting and Colour

First View on the 'Real World'

When I took my first look at the real world I instantly felt a sense of boredom, this is because of the lighting of the real world.  This is mainly because of the dull setting.  For instance the lighting inside the 'Pink Palace.' It was very plain as if nothing really popped out but Coraline.  I think that it was used like this because they want you to mainly think that which in my opinion was very clever.

First view on the 'Other World'

When Coraline went into the other world we felt a sense of welcoming and warmth.  This was mainly because of the spectacular colours that immaculately showed what the director was trying to present.  When I say 'warmth' I mean welcoming colours.  There was a scene where the garden from the other world was portraited with a whole bunch of unnatural and artificial colours.

After the button eyes

After the scene of the 'other' mother trying to get Coraline's eyes the other world changes.  The place starts to show its original glow.  This is done when the lights start to dim and show off the lime green.  This gives off the disgusting feel.  Then the other mother starts to change.

Real World after the resolution

When we come back to the real world the other place starts to glow.  They start working on the garden and it shows off more natural light which gives us a sense of love and affection.  At this scene, nothing really seems dull or out of place but everything feels amazing.

What makes a leader?

Last Wednesday all year 9's from Riroriro had to write and make a video about what makes and creates a leader.  First, we had to write down the key aspects of a leader.  After we added our values we then had to make a video saying what makes a great leader and how we inspire to be a leader.

In Conclusion, I have refreshed my mind and reflected back on what I think a leader is.  This is just a way to point you to be a great leader.  What values do you think makes a great leader/role model?

Theme Guide Booklet - Coraline

 Looks can be deceiving

‘Looks can be deceiving’ is shown perfectly by the main character, the other mother.  She starts off sweet and kind, basically giving a warm and welcoming feel.  But throughout the movie the other mother starts acting a bit weird and always asks for buttons.  It starts to change her looks which then finishes off with her looking like a demonic and unhuman like figure with needles for hands.

Be grateful for what you have

The best person to describe this theme is Coraline. She starts off by complaining about the house and always talking about how boring and annoying it is.  So one night when she found the mysterious tunnel she was welcomed to the other mother.  She loved her and what she did for Coraline,  which led her to forget about her biological mother.  This made her ungrateful about her real mother.

The power of choice

The power of choice is superbly shown by Coraline again.  The simple/easy choices she made kept on leading up to such huge consequences.
