I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Japanese
Hi and welcome to my blog, today we wrote in Japanese. We wrote a little blurb about ourselves and I think that I did an okay job thinking that my handwriting in Japanese is not the best. It was really fun having the chance to write some stuff about me in a different language. Bye and thank you for reading.

Solar Energy - Hurumanu
Aim: To find out which color attracts the suns heat.
Hypothesis: I think that black attracts heat because sunlight does not reflect off it
Materials:
- Tin Foil
- Black Paper
- White paper
- Heater
- Water
- Thermometer
- cup
Steps
- Place the different materials evenly so the heat waves would be separated to heat all waters at once
- Cover the cups with the different papers (etc Tin foil, Black Paper, White Paper)
- On the heater to apply from that direction
- Keep the thermometer on so you know what the recordings
Findings:

Conclusion
In conclusion, I would like to say that I was intrigued to know what colour attracts the sunlight the most. As my Hypothesis states I was correct. Today I have proven the fact that black does indeed attract more sunlight or heat.

Change the Future - Hurumanu
Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future.
What places will be affected?
Close to the edge, Close to the sea.
What else do we need to think about?
Think wisely about where we create new buildings. Saltwater becoming our drinking water.
What other places around NZ will be affected?
Near the coast around New Zealand
What does this do to our drinking water?
It will be more sal water
What are the main concerns?
- Salt Water
- Water level rising
What can we do?
- Use public Transport
- Purchase an electric car
- Build a house that doesn't waste energy (Solar Panels)
What is the one, silver bullet solution?
There is no Silver Bullet
What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
- Renewable energies more
- Using solar heating
- Transport that depends on fossil fuels
What are 3 others you can think of?
- Stop using vehicles and start walking
- Start reusing products
- Recycle what needs to be recycled
Activities:
Carbon Footprint:

Colour 1: for actions, they are already doing
Colour 2: for actions that they pledge to undertake in the future
Ecological Handprint The Ecological handprint builds on the concepts from the Carbon Footprint. We will look at the positive actions of:
- Transportation
- Community
- Consumption
- Water
- Food
- Home
- Waste
1 Colour: For each action, you are already doing
2 Colour: For each action, you would like to do in the future

Fossil Fuels - Hurumanu
Mining Fossil Fuels
What Fossil Fuels are mined?
- Oil
- Coal
- Gas
How are they mined?
1. There is a drill that digs into the ground, it is called an Oil Rig
2. They use different kinds of tools to either mine on surface or underground
3. It is a thing that goes deep into the ground and brings back gas. They are called Rig Drills
Where are they mined?
1. Oil - Underwater
2. Coal - Underground or on the surface
3. Gas - Land
Material:
- Toothpick
- Cookie (with choc chips)
- Plate
Steps:
- Put the cookie on the plate
- Start mining the choc chips without breaking the cookie in any way
- Collect as many as you can
- Whoever collects the most is the winner
- (Goal is to not break the cookie)
Findings: What did you find out as a result of your mining?
It is very hard to mine the cookie without breaking it.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I have found out that we need to find more ways to gather valuable resources for our vehicles. I think this because it is helping us but not the environment it may sound like nothing at the moment but in the future generations, it will get worse so we need to change now. This is what I think thank you and bye.
